Immunologic Study on Acute Viral Hepatitis in Childhoood

Abstract
Seventy-two patients with acute viral hepatitis (5, patients with hepatitis I and 15
patients with hepatitis B) were subjected to this study in regard to liver function tests, serum protein and electrophoresis, serum immunoglobulins (IgG, IgA, and IgM), white blood cell counts of peripheral blood, and serologic HBV markers. All patients were admitted to the Department of Pediatrics, Chosun University Hospital during Mar. 1983- Feb. 1984 .and blood samples for investigation were obtained soon after admission in all patients.
The following results were obtained.
1. The mean serum bilirubin, SGOT, SGPT, LDH, and TTT levels in the patients with hepatitis A and B were markedly elevated at the time of admission, but there were no significant differences between the patients with hepatitis A and B. And, the
:mean serum alkaline phosphatase and r-GTP levels in the patients with hepatitis A were significantly elevated than those observed in the patients with hepatitis B(p0.01^ 0.05) .
2. The mean serum total protein and albumin levels in the patients with hepatitis A and B were within normal range at the time of admission and there no significant differences between the patients with hepatitis A and B.
3. The mean serum alpha 1-globulin, alpha 2-globulin, and beta-globulin level- in the patients with hepatitis A and B were within normal rangl however, the mean gamma globulin levels in the patients with hepatitis A and B were elevated.
4. The mean serum IgG levels in the patients with hepatitis A and B were significantly elevated (1446.7¡¾354. 5mg/dl and 1583.3¡¾306.2mg/dI respectively), however, there ,ere no statistically significant differences between the patients with hepatitis A and B.
5. The mean serum IgA levels in the patients with hepatitis A and B were slightly elevated (149.2¡¾69.5mg/dl and 154.6¡¾42.7mg/dl respectively), however, there were no, significant differences between the patients with hepatitis A and B.
6. The mean serum IgM levels in the patients with hepatitis A and B were markedly
